Measure - Process Capability
The system to the left is a tank suspended on load cells, used for dosing hop extract into a copper as part of a brewery process.
The original manufacturer's system relied initially on a mag-flow meter but hop extract is viscous and measurement was unreliable as the meter was reading as much entrained air as hop extract. The repeatability of the system and process control was very poor.
The system was replaced by a small cylindro-conical tank on load cells. The hop extract was pumped into the vessel and weighed, then mixed with hot water and allowed to drain into the copper on the level below. The load cell was periodically calibrated and the system proved far more accurate (precise and repeatable) than the metered system it replaced.
